Police Cover-Up Suspected in Drunk Driving Vehicular Manslaughter Case

Mississippi, Mississippi, Mississippi.  Sometimes things just fall in to place in odd ways.  Seems like the two major stories I choice to report on this morning both took place in Mississippi.  This time we have an off duty police officer who is guilty of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.  WLOX reports the situation as such:
A Jackson County family says justice has not been served in the death of their 16-year-old daughter.
Kaytlynn Brann was struck by a truck while walking on Pointe Aux Chenes Road the evening of February 22nd. She died the next day. The driver of the truck was an off duty Pascagoula police officer.
Now, family members, are using words like "cover-up" to describe the situation.
Not only do cops get away with murder on duty, but also off duty due to their "blue line" which keeps them safe and sound from any sort of prosecution.  The father of the girl explained what an investigator had told him:
"He told us that the man had left the scene. He came back 16 minutes later. That he refused to blow, then 45 minutes later he did blow positive, and four hours later they did a blood draw. That he would be arrested and he would stay in jail until Monday morning. He would bond out and then we found out the next day that that was not, in fact, true," Kristen Brann said.
The day after the accident, Sheriff Mike Byrd said alcohol probably played a role in the accident.
Of course this piece of shit didn't bond out, his buddies most likely never even booked him.  For a group of dirtbags that enjoy jailing people so much, when it comes to their own they are more than willing to ignore the law and their moral obligations.
After three months and no arrest in the case, suspicions run deep for the Branns.
"I'm afraid of it becoming a cover-up. That's what I'm afraid of," Keith Brann said.
"The police officer at the hospital said they weren't going to show preferential treatment, but that's exactly what they're doing," Kristen Brann said.
Family friends also question the handling of the case.
"If it were me, I would be straight in jail. And that's not right. There shouldn't be a double standard," family friend Alison Melton said.
Alison Melton is absolutely correct, if anyone else left the scene of a crime and killed a girl while drinking and driving they would not have seen the light of day.  Yet this guy walks freely amongst us as if he is an innocent bystander to the crime.
Of course local Sheriff Mike Byrd claims the investigation is under way and that there is a lot of information to sort through.  We'll see where this one lands, but I have a feeling this dirtbag officer will get away scot free.
